Slum Village must be the Hip Hop group with the most dramatic history ever. SV was formed in the mid 1990's when original members Baatin, T3 and Jay Dee (J Dilla) began to make music together in Detroit. Most of the Slum Village album's were produced by J Dilla. Jay Dee left the group to start a solo career in 2001. Elzhi became a new member but left the group in 2010 because of differences with RJ Rice.
J Dilla died on February 10, 2006 because of a rare disease named "Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic purpura" and "Lupus" . He was one the most influential hip hop artists ever. I really adore his music and everything he ever produced. He left a huge emptiness, but he and his music will always remain.
Baatin died on July 31,2009 because of schizophrenia..
I had the chance to see Slum Village performing last friday in Duisburg, Germany @ the High5Club. To see the Members T3, Young RJ and Illa J (the younger brother of J Dilla) was amazing! J. Rawls, a known producer from the US was spinning the turntabels. Everything has outreached my expectations. My personal highlight was Illa J. I listen to his music almost everyday and it was great to speak with him and also with the other members. Furthermore a little dream came true. I always wanted to see J Dilla live, even if he wasn't there a little part of him with slum village was.
"This was for you Dilla, this was for you Baatin.." Rest in peace!
